Why I Love Animals More Than People

When I tell someone that I love animals more than people, there’s normally two reactions I receive. Reaction one is a nodding of the head, with no words needing to be exchanged. They simply get it. Reaction two is a scrunched up face and a look that screams you are weird. Then there’s the people who claim they don’t even like animals… well, you can guess what I think about them. Moving on swiftly.. let’s get exactly to the point about why I love animals more than people.

They always know how to make you feel better.

No matter how bad your day has been, pets always makes everything feel better. Meet Oscar the Devon Rex cat. He is literally obsessed with headbutts. That head of his will honestly smash into anything including radiator pipes, the sofa arm and even the edge of the door. If you cough, he will cry like a small child, he’s genuinely worried for your life. I’ve never come across an animal as affectionate as him. When I extend the corner of my fist or finger out to him, he always smashes his head against it. Things like that are consistent actions reminding me that I’m important, I matter and I’m loved. Let me not forget the random evenings, where his fluffy tail grows twice in size as he prances around the lounge in excitement, over absolutely nothing… That always without fail makes me burst out laughing.

You can respect their boundaries. They are consistent.

Humans can at the best of times be quite unpredictable. The only time my cats appear to differ in their usual energetic, bubbly self is if they are poorly. However a treat, or in their case a dreamie make everything better? My cat Gabbi, does things on her own terms, when she wants to do them. That’s not to say if I picked her up and gave her a cuddle, she’d object and purr, because she would. With her, I just have to work a little harder, but I like that! She’s a little madam and has her own mind. I thought this photograph was a perfect representation of the relationship I have with her. She’s also queen of the house, looking after Stella and Oscar.

They love you no matter what you look like.

Humans are quick to judge and make their mind up about one another. Pets on the other hand? They ask for little but give back so much. When an animal loves you, you feel it. Humans on the other hand are complex unstable creatures at the best of times. Bad day, crying and feeling under the weather? My pet doesn’t care! In fact they’d happily try to break the door down to see me, even in that state. Most humans would be warding me off from a safe distance with a long stick. My cats however treat me as my normal old self. They don’t care either if I haven’t had a hair wash for five days or if my spot is back between my eyebrows giving me the illusion I have a third eye again.

They capture your heart with their cuteness.

Animals are far cuter than humans. I mean just look at that tummy of Stella’s! Tummy’s like that are crying out for kisses! When I think about it, I think I’ve smothered my cats in far more kisses than my husband. When I come home from work, I open my front door to three cats chirping. Chirps of literal love, declaring their love for me. Whereas if I had a human announcing their love for me every few hours, I’d be saying something along the lines of ‘I know dear, you’ve told me. Thank you.’

Do you have a pet in your life? Do you love animals more than people?

Cats and animals in general are always there for you, and show you unconditional love no matter what! For a long time I’ve felt this way about animals and how I prefer them to humans. I always felt bad about it, thinking that maybe I’m weird and antisocial. Being with animals and in nature is soothing to me, and helps my problems and worries melt away. Most days I wish I was on a far off island, filled with cats and other animals. Love this post a lot! Really resonated with me.

Hey Justin! Thank you so much. That means so much to me tjat this post resonated with you. I’ve literally felt the same as you all my life! You aren’t antisocial at all. Animals are just so damn cool, it’s a hard time for humans to match up to that level! 😊

I alsways used to think I didn’t like cats and that they were.. selfish. I have no idea why!

When we moved in with my step-mum she had three cats who were all extremely timid, and it took the best part of the year before I could even touch them all. But after 6 or 7 years I realised they really are amazing and so full of love and their own unique personalities.. I definitely think of Kreecher as my best friend in many ways, he’s a headbutt cat too, and he’s so happy to see you, if you give him any attention he starts drooling, it’s gross and hilarious but absolutely lovely

People do get that misconception! All depends on the behaviour of the cat. Each and everyone is different which is why I appreciate them so much! 😊 Kreecher sounds adorable, one day I just know Oscar is going to be a drooled, I can’t wait! πŸ˜‚β€
